INTO ART
Jackson’s senior session proves that great photos happen when the planning feels easy long before the camera comes out. Here’s how we turned one Friday afternoon into heirloom-worthy Wayzata Minnetonka guy senior pictures—without stress for Jackson or his mom.
After chatting with his mom over the phone after their inquiry, I gathered she didn’t think Jackson would have much fun and would be hard to get expressions out of.
As the official hype woman myself, I disagree. And I can prove it. 🙂
We started at Jackson’s consult with a simple questions: How do you want to see yourself? Where do you get the most joy? Where are these images going to live?
Most of my clients celebrate this milestone with wall portraits. What’s better than you as art on the wall?
Or an album?
We customize albums that start at 25 images – so lots to fill up with great portrait ideas!
Grandma needed a sharp studio portrait; Jackson wanted lake-life vibes on the Wayzata docks. While he flipped through sample albums, I sketched a quick timeline that tucked studio formals and marina golden hour into one smooth block—no juggling school or sports.
We walked Jackson through what photographs best: layer a slim navy blazer over a crisp shirt, balance patterns so stripes don’t fight checks, and never forget the details—matching belt, neutral socks, the right undershirt. A fast mirror-selfie text to me during the week sealed any loose ends.
Mom heard every tip, saw the outfits in real light, and knew nothing important would be left on the closet floor.
Two days before the shoot, we’ll send you the day of info: where to park and a weather link I’d keep refreshing so you didn’t have to. Any last-minute question, hair product, snack suggestions, best socks for loafers were already covered.
Jackson walked into the St. Paul studio to find his suit hanging, pressed and ready. Music already playing, lights already metered, he just stepped into place while I coached tiny shifts—relax the shoulders, lean an inch, breathe. He watched the tethered screen, saw he looked great, and the grin turned genuine.
A short drive later we hit the Wayzata docks. Jackson swapped into his gray polo and khaki shorts right on cue; I’d scouted the best rail for backlit sparkle so we never wandered looking for “the spot.” I angled him to the breeze, checked that watch, belt, and sock game were on point, and tossed a joke to keep the smile real.
As the sun dropped, he pulled on a flannel, perched on an empty pier, and let his sneakers dangle above the ripples. I tracked the light, nudged a subtle head-tilt, and caught that last burst of color.
I swear his mom exhaled watching the whole scene—her son relaxed, photos beautiful, no worries about anything but seeing her kid shine.
The when Jackson and his parents returned for a reveal on the big screen, I had already gone through and picked the best of the best.
With a picture of their walls, I could create beautiful wall art perfect for their home to scale – no guesswork or wondering if it will fit.
Frames headed from Italy. No extra errands, no DIY guesswork.
Jackson walked away feeling unstoppable.
Mom walked away knowing her son had fun and their art would arrive ready to hang.
If that sounds like your ideal Wayzata or Minnetonka senior portrait experience, let’s set a date.
I’ll handle the details—you handle the smiles.
