Fine Art Portrait Photography Blog
I photograph seniors from Maple Grove who want something different from the standard senior picture setup. Not the same pose, same backdrop, same look as everyone else. Something that actually feels like them.
Every session is built around your senior’s personality, style, and vision. The locations, the creative direction, the wardrobe, the posing. All of it is designed specifically for them. The result is senior pictures that feel personal, powerful, and completely their own.
This is a full-service experience from the first conversation to the finished portraits. Here’s how it works.
It starts with a planning consultation, a phone or video call where I get to know your senior before we ever pick up a camera. Their style, their vibe, what they want their pictures to feel like. Nothing is left to chance on session day.
Before the session, I do an in-home fashion and planning appointment to finalize outfits, talk through locations, and lock in creative direction. This is where the session really takes shape. By the time session day arrives, your senior walks in already feeling confident and prepared.
Professional hair and makeup is included with every session at no extra cost. Styling is done at my St. Paul studio before we head out on location, so your senior is camera-ready from the very first frame. The goal is always to enhance natural features and photograph beautifully without looking overdone. They’ll still look like themselves, just the best version.
On session day, I guide your senior through every moment. Posing, movement, expression. No modeling experience needed. My direction is natural and supportive, and the goal is for your senior’s confidence and personality to come through without anything feeling forced or stiff. Sessions can blend studio looks at the St. Paul studio with outdoor environments, downtown Minneapolis urban settings, or a combination of locations up to four in a single session for maximum variety.
About a week after the session, we meet for an in-person image reveal where your senior views their finished portraits and selects their favorites. Wall art, albums, and digital collections are designed with intention, built to be enjoyed for generations, not just posted once. Explore the full range of senior portrait products.
My studio is based in St. Paul, not Maple Grove. That’s honest, and it matters for planning. Maple Grove seniors travel to the studio for hair, makeup, and styling before the session, and from there we head to locations that match your senior’s vision. Downtown Minneapolis, nature preserves, urban environments, or a full studio session, all within an easy drive from Maple Grove.
Many Maple Grove families already drive this direction for work, appointments, and events. The session is built to be worth the trip. Everything is handled at the studio so your senior arrives, gets styled, and walks out with portraits that look nothing like what their friends are booking closer to home.
Here’s something I’ve noticed. Scroll Instagram during senior season and a lot of the senior pictures start to blend together. Same spots, same poses, same look. That’s what happens when most of a graduating class books the same photographer.
I design every session around the specific senior in front of me. Your senior’s photos should stop the scroll, not get lost in it.
Maple Grove Senior High seniors bring a lot of personality into a session. I work with athletes, theatre kids, musicians, dancers, artists, and anyone who wants their pictures to actually reflect who they are, not just what they look like standing in a field.
If your senior is a performer, I know how to work with presence and expression in a way that reads on camera. If they’re an athlete, I know how to photograph power and confidence without making it look like a sports card. If they just have a distinct style and a clear vision of who they are, that’s exactly what I’m here for.
The session is guided and low-pressure. Your senior doesn’t need to know how to pose. They just need to show up. I handle the rest. View the full senior portrait experience to see what’s possible.
Where do sessions take place?
My studio is based in St. Paul, where hair and makeup are handled before heading out on location. From there, sessions can take place across the Twin Cities including outdoor environments, nature preserves, lakefronts, or downtown Minneapolis for a bold urban look. I regularly work with seniors from Maple Grove and the northwest metro, and locations are always selected to match your senior’s personality and vision. Can we shoot downtown Minneapolis?
Absolutely. Downtown Minneapolis is one of my favorite environments for senior pictures. Architectural details, open plazas, industrial backdrops, and city energy create a completely different look than outdoor or studio images. Many seniors combine a studio look, an outdoor location, and downtown Minneapolis urban senior portraits in a single session.
When should we book?
As early as possible. Spring and summer sessions fill quickly, and booking early ensures availability while leaving time to design finished wall art before important deadlines. Learn more about when to schedule your senior pictures. Studio sessions are available year-round, and booking for spring, summer, and fall 2026 is open now.
What should seniors wear?
I provide full wardrobe guidance during the planning consultation. Multiple outfit changes are encouraged, and access to my curated studio style closet is available for additional options that take the images to the next level. Read the full what-to-wear guide for senior pictures.
Do seniors need modeling experience?
Not at all. I guide every senior through posing, movement, and expression throughout the entire session. Direction is natural and low-pressure. The goal is for your senior to feel comfortable, confident, and completely themselves.
Is hair and makeup really included?
Yes, always. Professional hair and makeup styling is included with every session at no additional cost. It’s done at my St. Paul studio before we head out on location, so your senior is camera-ready from the very first frame.
Booking for spring, summer, and fall 2026 is open now. Sessions fill quickly, especially May through August.
