She’s a singer, an actor, and a cybersecurity professional based in Jordan, Minnesota. She drove across the metro because she needed images that could hold all of that without flattening any of it. Standard corporate headshots would erase the performer. Generic actor headshots wouldn’t open the right professional doors. She wanted editorial headshots that could do both, and she wasn’t willing to settle for less.

That’s exactly the kind of session I live for.

What made this session work wasn’t the backdrops or the lighting. It was Melissa.

She came in open, excited, and completely willing to take risks. She leaned into looks that felt unfamiliar. She let herself be soft when the image called for it and commanding when it didn’t. She trusted the process even when we were in territory that felt new.

That willingness is rare. And it’s exactly why her images look the way they do.

We worked through three completely different looks in my St. Paul studio each one a different facet of who she is. The first, a deep burgundy velvet blazer against a clean white backdrop, is pure professional authority. Precise, confident, direct.

The second is where things opened up. A flowing editorial gown, a gold laurel crown, a textured backdrop that image is less headshot and more fine art portrait. It belongs in a theatre program, on a casting website, or framed on a wall. The third, a black blazer on a warm caramel backdrop, hands on hips and that smile, that’s the creative professional who has been in enough rooms to know she belongs in all of them.

None of these feel like a costume because none of them are. They’re all just Melissa, in different rooms she already owns.
